Review of Applebees Provolone Stuffed Meatballs with Fettuccine

Applebee’s 2 for $20 menu deal offers a great value.  This is a super price saver where two people can share an appetizer and two entrees from the value menu for only $20.  The value menu is now stuffed with more flavors and includes two new pasta dishes – Provolone stuffed meatballs with Fetuccine and Florentine Ravioli with Chicken.  Other dishes which are available in the 2 for $20 menu are Riblet Basket, 7 oz. Sirloin, Chicken Tenders Basket, Three-Cheese Chicken Penne, Fiesta Lime Chicken, and Oriental Chicken Salad.  In this article,  we will review Provolone stuffed meatballs with Fetuccine.

applebees provolone stuffed meatballs fetuccineThe Provolone Stuffed Meatballs with Fettuccine looks very delicious from its picture in the menu.  The dish is basically Italian meatballs which have a stuffing  of rich creamy provolone cheese, basked in savory marinara and served on fettuccine pasta smothered with creamy Alfredo sauce.

The meatballs are of pretty good size and there’s quite a lot of provolone cheese stuffed inside them.  Provolone is indeed a good choice for cheese that goes very well in taste with the meatballs.  You’d absolutely love the combination.  There is also a hint of red chili pepper on the meatballs – that adds to the flavor but does not make it too spicy.  This particular dish does not come with any side dishes like garlic bread that normally accompany Applebees menu items. But, even without the extras, the pasta is quite filling.

Though this new exotic dish is very delicious, we should warn you that it is not for the calorie conscious eaters. America has a fetish for cheese and this dish is one prominent example.  Every item in this dish suffers from cheese overload.  Especially, the meatballs are served on a bed of fetuccine with creamy Alfredo sauce – which contains lot of butter, cheese and oil.  In fact, one serving of Applebee’s Provolone-Stuffed Meatballs with Fettuccine contains a whooping 1,550 calories !  Nutrition breakdown is : 15% protein, 29% carbs and 56% fat.

If you try a similar dish in a good Italian restaurant, it would not be better than what Applebee’s offers and you would have to pay a much higher price.  Next time, we will review Applebee’s Florentine Ravioli with Chicken.
